First Measurement of the Rocker

After the unit is cured and ready to continue with the building process you will want to measure the rocker curve on the unit first before continuing. Follow the procedure outlined in the beginning of the building instructions to set up a datum string along the length of the center unit. A 2x4 screwed into the building form at the front and rear of the form will act as the posts to stretch a datum string. Use a scrap piece of 24 mm thick wood to act as the thickness of the transom and clamp it onto the after spine at the point where the actual transom will be glued. Clamp a string on the 2x4 that is screwed onto the building form near the transom so it is located 305 mm above the rocker in line with the plane of the after transom surface. Next measure along the rocker curve a distance of 4760 mm and clamp a string onto the 2x4 screwed into the building form near the forward transom, in such a way that it is located 407 mm above the rocker curve at that point. Make sure the string is tight between the two 2x4’s and there is no sag in the string. Next, locate the five measurement stations located around the rocker curve and mark them. At the stations, measure the distance between the rocker curve and the string. If the boat is a standard design follow the measurements given to the builder in the rule
