FIREBALL ITALIA – Report from Chiavari National Regatta

7 April 2014

This year the "50 Anni di Derive" regatta has not only been a Fireball National Regatta, but also an important event for Flying Dutchman, Contender and Laser. Overall, 35 teams took part to the event with 13 Fireball ready at the starting line.

Tree races were run on Saturday, in stormy weather conditions: wind from south (8-12 knots) and heavy seas. Wind conditions and well-formed waves (1,5 meters) hardly tested technical and tactical ability of the crews.

The first day ended with Brescia/Strobino at the first place with one regatta won and two second places. Following De Luca/Tonelli with a 4th,  a 1st and a 3th place and Leone/Campati on the lower step of the temporary podium with two3th places and a 2nd place.  Also deserving a mention the team Dinale/De Bernardis who made a spectacular recovery during the first race, gaining the 1st place.

No Races where run on Sunday due to the weather conditions with breaking waves over 2,5 meters in the morning and weather forecasts getting worse, so Saturday ranking was confirmed.

Regatta prizegiving took place at the Yacht Club Chiavari at the presence of city authorities, representatives of Tomasoni, who sponsored the event, and members of YCC Council. On the same occasion has been rewarded the "Ranking List Fireball 2013", winner team De Luca/Tonelli who had been constants both in participation and in results.

The next appointment not to be missed: the "Trofeo Accademia" 26-27 April 2014 in Livorno.
