To: All Members
Council

Dear Members
I am delighted to have commenced my new role at World Sailing and I am genuinely
honoured to be serving our sport and you our members.
I passionately believe that there is such a great opportunity to further grow and develop
our sport on so many levels and I look forward to working with the World Sailing family to
enable that vision to be realised.
As you can imagine, my first three weeks have been exceptionally busy dealing with a
number of critical issues for our sport. Handling these matters in an expedient,
professional and informed way has only been possible with the support of the excellent
staff at World Sailing, the President and the Executive Committee.
One of my key areas of focus during 2016 will be to establish a strong working relationship
with the World Sailing Family founded on earned trust and mutual respect. I look forward
to meeting and getting to know as many of you as I am able to at events, forums and our
annual conference later this year. I am aware that we need to continuously work to
improve our engagement with our members and I hope to announce some new initiatives
in this area during the year.
I also plan to ensure that we continue to build excellent relationships right across the
Olympic family, including the IOC, ASOIF and our fellow International Federations. It is
essential that we continue to raise our presence and influence within the Olympic
movement and for that reason I and other members of the management team plan to be in
Lausanne on a frequent basis.
My top priority is to ensure that in conjunction with Rio2016 that we deliver an outstanding
Olympic and Paralympic sailing competition. I will be working with our team to ensure that
no stone has been left unturned in delivering a safe and fair competition. To that end, I will
be travelling to Rio on a number of occasions between now and the Games to satisfy
myself first hand of the preparations and to support the excellent work that has been led by
Alastair Fox, our Medical Commission and many others across the sport.

Of course there is much to be done to ensure that we operate as a
professional, efficient and effective governing body for our sport. We need
unreserved commitment to genuine communication and consultation and
a willingness to change our views if that is the right thing to do. World
Sailing needs to show fairness and good judgement but we should not
stand still. If we have Regulations that are outdated, or not reflecting
leading practise, then we need to be prepared to change them but we need to be unbiased
and independent when we come to enforcing our Regulations.
I am very much looking forward to working with President Croce, the Executive Committee
and all of you over the coming months and years. Please find my contact details below for
your future reference.

Yours in Sport
