We are very excited to announce that the 2021 - 2022 Australian Fireball Championships will be hosted by Keppel Bay Sailing Club in Yeppoon, Queensland. The event will run from 28th December 2021 to 3rd January 2022.

Everyone in Australia was dissappointed when the Geelong world championships had to be postponed due to covid. We were all at a bit of a loss as to now what?  With this in mind Fireball Australia undertook the task of finding a venue with wow factor to keep everyone pumped up. Sailors indicated that they wanted to go somewhere new, somewhere warm, somewhere with good breeze and somewhere with lots to do off the water. Not much of an ask really.

Yeppoon meets all these criteria. It is located in tropical Queensland at the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef. The water is clear and warm, with reliable sea breezes forecast over the Christmas period.

There are lots of things to see and do starting with a trip out Great Keppel Island to snorkel or dive on the Great Barrier Reef.

The town itself has many restaurants, cafe's, pubs as well as massive kids zones and public swimming pools on the water front.

Yeppon is a solid two days drive or comfortble 3 days from all Australian Fireball Clubs. You can also fly into Rockhampton located 40km from Yeppoon.

Already  contingent of SA Fireball sailors have planned to extend their holiday with a post regatta trip to Fraser Island. Others are planning to kit the Sunshine Coast or even venture further south to do the theme parks on the Gold Coast.

There is something for everyone in Queensland so hurry up and book your accommodation to ensure you are close to the sailing club.

For more information about the regatta please look at the regatta web page or call Matthew Carter, the regatta chairperson.

Hope to see you all there
