Day 2 Blown Out in Wales

20 August 2015

With a forecast of winds over 20 knots gusting to 30 it was always border line as to whether racing would take place on day two of the 2015 Fireball Preworlds and British Nationals.

Competitors were woken to strong winds, low visibilty and plenty of rain. Yesterdays sunny skies and fair winds were now only a memory.

The PRO still maintained some hope of the wind dying down and with true professionalism he postponed for 2 hours before making his final call to keep the fleet ashore.

Those on the ball made the most of the facilities at the sailing club, wheeling their boats with mast up into the centre couldron of the club.  Sheltered from the elements there was a hive of activity with repairs and modifications taking place.

Two time Fireball world champion, Richard Wagstaff gave a talk on how to set up a Fireball for the strong breeze which was well received.

Tomorrow the race start has been brought forward to 12pm with three races planned.

The forecast looks a bit friendlier with between 13 and 18 knots.

Now it is off to the Hog Roast for a good feed and some banter.
