With the rest of the country shivering in temperatures of well under zero and deep snow, the little snow that lay at Starcross had disappeared and with the temperature hovering around the plus side of zero it was decided to go ahead with the 21st Starcross Steamer. Thirteen Fireballs braved the waters of Dun Laoghaire harbour yesterday on what must have been the coldest day of the series thus far. The Wicklow hills, viewed from the harbour were covered in a thick blanket of snow, while the closer Dublin hills were also covered in white but not to the same intensity. Read More >

On Friday afternoon, a visit to the XCWeather website suggested that the Frostbite Series on the following Sunday would enjoy 10 knot westerlies in Dun Laoghaire harbour in temperatures of about 3º. At 13:45 on the day, the little wind there was wasn’t coming out of the west. However, the air temperature wasn’t 3º either but more of a balmy 5º. Read More >
