Algal Bloom Report

The SA Government has established an algal bloom website providing information about the algal bloom that is occurring in the Gulf of St Vincent. Please refer to this official channel for answers to questions about the impact of the algal bloom.

The SA Department of Primary Industry has published more scientific detail about the algal bloom from the SA Research and Development Institute.

Please refer to these sites which describe exposure impacts to humans as potential for short term skin or eye irritation or shortness of breath, but no toxins that could cause long term effects.

Based on this information the regatta is proceeding. Showers at the club facilities after sailing are available to minimise any impact of algal exposure during racing. So far this season very few sailors have reported symptoms associated with the algal bloom. The club has held multiple full weekend regattas recently with all going ahead with no impact from the bloom.
